Preparing and using potassium dichromate(VI) indicator papers

Potassium dichromate(VI) indicator papers can be made in a similar way to cobalt chloride indicator papers.

Use a 0.1 mol dm–3 solution of potassium dichromate(VI), mixed with an equal volume of 1 mol dm–3 sulfuric acid.

Potassium dichromate is Very Toxic and a Danger to the environment and May cause sensitisation. The indicator papers should be handled as little as possible and hands washed after use.

1 mol dm-3 sulfuric acid is an Irritant. One drop of the mixed solution on a piece of filter paper will allow users to avoid direct contact.
