About us and this website

Our aims

We describe tried and tested chemistry experiments, in sufficient detail that they will work in any school laboratory. We provide notes about teaching and learning, and a few web-links. The site is particularly useful for teachers and technicians who wish to develop their practical craft in chemistry.

Work on the site started in 2006 and experiments are being added to the site gradually.

Progress

Here are lists of experiments on this site, and experiments soon to be published. Keep coming back to the site to see which experiments have become live.

Who we are

This is a joint project of the Nuffield Curriculum Centre and the Royal Society of Chemistry in association with CLEAPSS.

The Nuffield Curriculum Centre explores new approaches to teaching and learning by developing, managing and supporting curriculum projects. Increasingly its projects are run in partnership with others.

The Royal Society of Chemistry is a leading international professional body and learned society, established to promote the advancement and dissemination of chemistry. Education is a key priority in its work.

CLEAPSS is an advisory service for subscribers, supporting practical science and technology in schools and colleges.

The editor of this website is Emma Woodley of RSC, working with Maja Melendez of the Nuffield Curriculum Centre, Colin Osborne of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Brian Orger. We are grateful to Andrew Hunt, Kay Stephenson, and Peter Borrows for getting the site started.

The editing team currently consists of Emma Woodley, Alastair Fleming, Alan Furse, Frank Harriss, John Johnston, Brian Orger, Douglas Snowden, Mike Thompson and Vicky Wong.

Safety advice is provided by CLEAPSS.
Technicians' advice is provided by Chris Peel and Bob Worley of CLEAPSS and others.

If you have any comments or queries about the site, please send them to Maja Melendez at the Nuffield Curriculum Centre.
